When hair and beauty businesses reopen, many restrictions will likely be put in place by the Government to protect hair and beauty specialists, as well as their clients. We’ve covered the safety regulations and hygiene practices in detail before, but this post is specifically about processing time on your services – and whether or not you should keep it there.
What is processing time?
Processing time is a feature designed to help you fill your days with even more great clients. When you add processing time to a hair colouring service, that slot becomes available in your Calendar for another potential client to book online. It’s a great way to optimise your business hours and take on more customers.
Should you be using processing time right now?
That said, right now it’s about ensuring that you, your team, and your clients are safe in your salon. Even though the official guidelines are yet to be published by the Government, we know it’s best to only allow a limited number of clients in your salon at any given time (our recommendation is one client per team member).
This means that you should have a think about whether or not you want to keep processing time on your services. Keeping processing time means your team members may need to tend to two clients at once – and you’ll need to decide whether or not it’s something you wish to do.
How to temporarily remove processing time
If you decide to temporarily remove processing time, you’ll need to do so for each service individually. Removing it is simple:
- Head to the Menu tab in the desktop version of Connect
- Click on Hair to view your hair services
- Scroll down to your hair colouring services
- Click on a service with processing time
- Untick Use processing time
- Update service duration (as below)
- Finally, remember to Save your changes
When you untick the box, you’ll need to manually change the duration of your service to how long the full appointment will take, i.e., Application time + Processing time + Finishing time.
For example, if a treatment takes 1 hour 45 minutes, once you untick the box, the duration will automatically change to Application time only (i.e., 1 hour). This means you’ll need to manually change it back to the treatment’s correct duration (1 hour 45 minutes).
Adding bookable processing time is an excellent way to fit more clients into your day. So if you choose to remove it, remember to add it back on when life in the salon returns to normal.
