Why SumUp card reader integration?
Most checkouts require taking card payments, so we wanted to significantly speed up and simplify that task. We have chosen SumUp because it’s an easy to use card reader with fair rates.
Now payments processed by SumUp can be seamlessly taken via Treatwell Connect app. This way taking the card payment conveniently completes the checkout, too. This will save a great amount of time and annoyance over time and prevent keying errors.
iOS Devices only
Initially, seamlessly taking SumUp payments is available for the Treatwell Connect app on iOS only.
While taking SumUp card payment seamlessly card schema will be captured automatically.
Using Treatwell web application, for example on a Windows computer, card schemas can and also have to be captured manually.
Set up SumUp card reader and Connect App
To be able to seamlessly take SumUp payments with Treatwell Connect app your SumUp account and your SumUp card reader have to be properly set up: You have to have your SumUp login details (email address and password) at hand and your SumUp device has to be properly connected via bluetooth with the tablet you are using Treatwell POS with.
So, if you haven’t registered with SumUp yet, you should do that here (United Kingdom) or here (Ireland). If you have received both SumUp login details and card reader open the Treatwell Connect app in calendar view. Choose POS quicklist on top right side and then ‘card reader setup’.
To set up SumUp card reader and Treatwell POS open Connect app in calendar view. Choose POS quicklist on top right side and then ‘card reader setup’.
Then choose ‘Set up your SumUp card reader’. You’ll be asked to enter your SumUp credentials.
If your SumUp card reader has been set up before, that’s it. Otherwise follow these steps to set up your SumUp card reader:
First, enter an amount (minimum £1.00/€ 1.00) and then press ‘Charge’. Your tablet will now scan for your SumUp card reader. Once found, the reader will turn on automatically. Then confirm the pairing request on your tablet by comparing the last 3 digits that are shown on your screen with the last 3 digits of your card reader’s serial number. Tap ‘Connect’ afterwards. You’ll then be asked to confirm bluetooth connection by clicking ‘pair’ in Connect App and by pressing the green check mark on your SumUp card reader, some older tablets need to type the pairing code at this stage.
Once done the SumUp card reader is connected and prepares for its first transaction, this will take about 2 minutes. Afterwards you can start taking card payments
Since the SumUp card reader is seamlessly integrated to the Connect app, there is no need to download the SumUp to your tablet.
Take SumUp card payments
To take SumUp card payment simply choose ‘card’ during checkout, change the charge amount if necessary and confirm both card payment and checkout by choosing ‘charge’.
Then, the SumUp device will wake up and our Treatwell Connect app will ask to either ‘tap or insert card’. Hand the SumUp device to the customer to do so. Low amounts may be payable contactlessly, in most cases the customer is required to enter PIN. If so, both SumUp device and Treatwell Connect app will tell so. The SumUp device will also display the charge sum. Ask the customer to check it, to enter and confirm the PIN via SumUp device.
As soon as the card payment has been successfully taken, the checkout is auto completed and Treatwell Connect app will switch to ‘transaction summary’
Issue SumUp refunds
Initially SumUp payment refunds can not be seamlessly processed via Treatwell Connect app. For the time being such cases require two steps instead: first, the POS transaction has to be refunded in Treatwell POS (just like any Treatwell POS refund as described here) and then the SumUp card payment has to be refunded either via web application.
