Typically you’ll be using the ‘Treatwell POS Setup’:
- Star Micronics mPOP (All in one cash drawer and receipt printer)
- iPad with iOS version 9 or higher installed or Android tablet with Android version 5 or higher installed
- Latest version of the ‘Treatwell Connect (for salons)’ app
If you are wondering what the mPOP might be - we sell it. So if you have bought POS hardware from us, you have bought that device at a preferential price. The mPOP looks neat, is super easy to set up and is also perfectly suitable for the day-to-day business, because it’s very robust and reliable. Its printer does not require ink, it uses thermal paper instead to keep follow-up costs low. Such thermal paper rolls can be bought at most office supply shops. Make sure that they have these measurements in order to be compatible: 2.25 inch (roll width) x ~80 Feet (roll length) x ~7/16 inch (core)/ 57mm (roll width) x 25m (roll length) x 12mm (core). The diameter of a roll should then be around 1 ⅞ inch/ 45mm.
In order to control the mPOP, you are required to use an Ipad or an Android tablet. We don’t sell tablets for several reasons: some of our partners already have one, but also because of the fact that you will always find a significantly better price online for that device than we can offer. We know that POS hardware is always an investment, so we oppose unnecessary costs.
In principle all ipad types (iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air & iPad Pro) are compatible. If you don’t own one yet and have to buy one for your ‘Treatwell POS Setup’ we always recommend the current ‘iPad’ or ‘iPad Air’ model. Both have a well proportioned 9,7 inch retina display, so as it stands it’s safe to say that it will support all important iOS updates for the next years. At the moment these would be the iPad 5th Gen (model number A1822 & A1823) and the iPad Air 2 (model number A1566 & A1576). With regards to which models are definitely incompatible, we would recommend ruling out the iPad 1st Gen (model number A1219 & A1337).
When it comes to Android tablets, we explicitly recommend using either Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 or Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7.
If you want to use a different Android tablet, it has to have Android version 5 or higher installed and should have a display size of at least 9.7”. Since there’s a large variety of Android tablets, Treatwell can not guarantee that there are no issues with single tablets though they meet these general requirements.
If you use an older tablet, be aware that it will eventually become incompatible, too. You should look out for signs for this, one of the first signs being if your iPad cannot update to the latest iOS version or your Android tablet can not upgrade to Android version 6 or higher. You should usually still be fine for years though.
To complete your ‘Treatwell POS Setup’ you must have the ‘Treatwell Connect (for salons)’ app, which you can download for free in the App store and in the Play store, installed. This controls the mPOP and guarantees that a receipt is printed or the cash drawer is opened when it’s supposed to - for example, while carrying out a checkout or entering a cash deposit.
You can use your Treatwell POS Setup to use Connect - specifically the calendar - too.
If possible, we recommend working on two terminals. Use a computer with a large screen for the Connect calendar and the ‘Treatwell POS Setup’ as a checkout terminal. If you have already been using Connect on a computer, this separation will simplify the introduction of Treatwell POS on-site.
Important note: The ‘print receipt’ and the ‘open cash drawer’ function and support in case of malfunction is only guaranteed for the previously defined ‘Treatwell POS Setup’.
